Virtual SIN | July 2021

Even with many of us being fully vaxxed, we wanted to make sure that everyone still remained safe this summer. With that we are embarking on what will be our LAST virtual workshop. In the past year, we feel as if we’ve innovatively managed to build a unique virtual program that embraces the importance of community. This has always been a guiding principle for us as a dance company, whether in the studio, on stage or teaching, we’ve always believed in the power of connection. With our online classes, we’ve retained that sense with all of our students, exploring new ways to reach out past the screen in front of you to give you the same in-depth experience you’ve always valued.

Morning Warm Up

Dancers will be guided through a series of exercises that emphasize core strength and stability, and the use of dynamic breath. This time will be used to prepare your bodies for the day. Please have a mat or towel ready for class.

Modern Technique with Current Company Members

This highly technical, movement-based class investigates the line of human movement and how it can affect the broader strokes of our dancing. Through the expansive use of the back and limbs, DOVA’s style will be explored through an emphasis on breath, strength, dynamic lyricism and musicality.

Afternoon Classes

Afternoon classes will consist of four days of repertory and one day of DEVICES with Doug

The focus of the week will be learning repertory from our newest works in progress. Through this investigation, the class will experience the wide range of movement dynamics, and emotional nuance inherent in Doug's choreography.

Devices with Doug Varone

Doug will emphasize compositional structure and explore new devices for expanding and inventing material. A body of material will be created, varied and manipulated both, pushing towards new discoveries.

Unfortunately, we will not be offering financial aid for this workshop.

What is the refund policy?

No refunds are possible for this workshop. If you cannot attend any part of the workshop, we will provide you with recorded videos of all classes and discussions you may have missed so that you may experience the workshop at a later time.

Is there a dress code for the workshop?

There is no dress code for our workshop, however we ask that you wear clothes that don't obstruct your dancing; sweats and a tank top or t-shirt are fine, or you're welcome to wear leotards and tights, as long as you're comfortable. Knee pads may be helpful to have on hand for some of our classes.

Do I have to audition?

No auditions are necessary for admittance into the workshop.

All classes and events will take place over Zoom. Zoom links for each class will be sent out prior to the start of the workshop. See the link below to download Zoom.

Do I have to take every class live?

While we strongly encourage participants to be present for every class, we understand that schedules can be complicated at the time so we will provide all students with a recorded version of class that they can view for a limited amount of time.

How large are the classes?

Class sizes depend on the total enrollment. Our aim is to have no more than 30 people in any given class.

Can I get college credit for taking the workshop?

We do not offer college credit, however we have been able to work one-on-one with students who have coordinated credit with their individual universities. We will gladly provide documentation detailing your involvement in the workshop, so that you can negotiate with your college to get credit.
